CA Provider # is 0619. This is a Category 1 Distance Learning Course.

In this course, Acupuncturists Without Borders will continue to train practitioners to provide effective, safe, and inclusive acupuncture services in diverse communities in the United States and internationally. The focus is on how to create trauma-informed leadership and healthy teams who can deliver community-based care in group settings. This course discusses ways that the neurobiology of trauma, Polyvagal theory, and Chinese Medicine can cultivate leadership in practitioners to help address the health needs of traumatized, under-served populations. Stuck Qi manifests in group situations and in the treatment room, as well as the body. This class offers facilitation, leadership, and conflict resolution skills that will move Qi and sustain teams and projects.

By the end of the course, participants will have a deep understanding of:

- using trauma-informed-care principles in leadership;
- The Way of Council, a group sharing and conflict resolution process when working in communities;
- biological and Chinese medicine function of the human voice and the impact of trauma on the voice;
- how to sustain and support treatment teams with Five Elements Theory;
- how to use somatic practices to re-regulate the nervous system under pressure;
- practitioner problem-solving strategies;
- case studies presented by experienced practitioners to help participants learn and implement best practices.

As neuroscience research and related clinical treatments evolve, we are learning that trauma is often at the root of psycho-physical health problems, patterns, and diseases. Acupuncturists are in a unique position to treat these dysregulated patterns because Oriental Medicine addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual problems faced by many people seeking care. Practitioners have a skill set well suited to leadership in creating teams to serve the health needs of traumatized and underserved communities. This course will introduce practitioners to skills and practices that will support their Trauma-Informed Leadership and ability to sustain teams and projects through the resolution of conflict.
